September not only signifies the official back-to-school season, it’s also National Preparedness Month and the Mid-South Chapter of the American Red Cross is reminding Mid-Southerners that this is a good time to make reviewing the “basics” – the basics of preparedness – a family affair by ensuring each member knows the family emergency plan.
Working to make preparedness a priority for every household, workplace and community, the American Red Cross and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security support a nationwide coordinated effort that encourages Americans to take steps to be better prepared for disasters and other emergencies where they live, learn, and work. “There are three simple things each of us can do to be prepared: (1) Get a Kit – have an emergency supplies kit; (2) Make a Plan – a family emergency plan; and (3) Be Informed – knowing about the different threats that may affect them”
